  • Hydration

Drink plenty of water at rehearsals and throughout the day to keep your body and voice in good condition!

Steaming is more instantaneous than drinking water! If you don't have a steamer, fill a bowl with hot water and lean over it, place a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Remember to wait half an hour after steaming before you start talking or singing, and (if you're using boiling water) leave it to cool for a few minutes before inhaling because the steam can burn your vocal folds!

    Resting

Try to avoid activities which put unnecessary strain on your voice and body, such as smoking, vaping, shouting, screaming and drinking alcohol.

If your voice is feeling tired or your throat is sore, vocal rest can make a huge difference. Try to limit your talking or talk at a lower volume, but avoid whispering which can actually make things worse!

Getting plenty of sleep is also crucial to vocal health!

    Warm Up

When you're practising at home, make sure you give yourself a good warm up, either by copying Sara’s routines or by following an online video. Doing some soft "warm up" exercises at the end of your rehearsal can also act as a good cool down.

    Retail Therapy

Vocal health is more than possible without buying anything special, but if you are looking for some recs check out the list below!

Steamers - The Dr Nelson steamer is a classic, but Boots makes a cheaper alternative which is also fab (not available online but ask in store).

Singing Straws - Check out these Vocal Tubes or the Rayvox Resono straw. Liv love love loves singing straws so give her a message if you want to chat about recommendations and exercises!

Throat Sweets - We recommend Jakeman's or Fisherman's Friends but advise you steer clear of products like Vocalzone, which can do more harm than good!

Singing Teachers - We recommend Gillian McLaren Scott, Katie Barnett from Singing with Katie, Rachel Campbell and James Muldoon. Again, Liv is v knowledgeable about all of this so reach out to her to chat about finding a singing teacher.
